Drain

CAUTION: When opening the expansion tank, hot steam may escape from it, so the tank cap should be covered with a rag and unscrewed very carefully, gradually releasing the pressure.

Open the coolant reservoir cap. Remove the sound-absorbing tray. Disconnect coolant hoses "1" from the coolant circulation pump "V178" "2".

Refueling

Caution: Only tap water may be used to obtain coolant. Water from artesian wells and boreholes does not have the qualities necessary to create a good coolant.

[The information is presented on the website vwmanual.ru]

Instructions: Only G12 plus-plus, which complies with TL VW 774 G standards, may be used as a concentrate. G 12 plus-plus concentrate prevents damage due to freezing of the coolant, corrosion and scale formation. In addition, it increases the boiling point of the coolant. For this reason, the cooling system must be filled with concentrates regardless of the season. In countries with a tropical climate and under high engine loads, a coolant with an increased boiling point plays a significant role in ensuring reliable engine operation. The freezing point of the coolant must not be higher than -25°C (in countries with an arctic climate - not higher than -35°C). It is prohibited to add water to the coolant (thus reducing the proportion of concentrate in it) even in warm seasons or in countries with warm climates. The proportion of concentrate in the coolant should be at least 40%. If the freezing point of the coolant must be lowered due to climatic conditions, the proportion of G12 Plus-plus concentrate can be increased, but not more than to 60% (the freezing point in this case will be about -40°C). If this limit is exceeded, the freezing point will increase again, and, in addition, the heat capacity of the coolant will decrease. When replacing the radiator, heater heat exchanger, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket, reusing the drained coolant is prohibited. It is recommended to use a "T10007" refractometer to determine the density of the coolant. Recommended mixing proportions: (use only tap water).

Connect the lower coolant hose to the radiator and secure it with the mounting bracket. Connect the coolant hoses to the oil radiator and the coolant circulation pump "V178". Install the sound-absorbing tray.

With cooling system filling device -VAS 6096-

Screw the adapter -VAG 1274/8- onto the expansion tank. Fill the cooling system using the device -VAS 6096-.

Without cooling system filling device -VAS 6096-

Slowly add coolant up to the upper mark on the expansion tank. Close the expansion tank. Start the engine and let it run for about 3 minutes at about 2000 rpm. Let the engine idle until the radiator fan turns on. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary. When the engine is warmed up to operating temperature, the coolant level should be at the upper mark; when the engine is cold, it should be between the upper and lower marks, in the middle of the shaded field.
