The Volkswagen engine is lubricated by an oil pump located at the front of the crankshaft.

Caution! In rechargeable engines, the oil cooler is located between the filter and the holder.

The oil pump consists of a gear with an internal toothed rim and a gear with an external toothed rim. Both of these parts are located in a housing closed by a lid. On the front wall there is a sealing ring for the front crankshaft bearing. The overflow valve is mounted on the side of the oil pump and is easily accessible when the engine is installed in the vehicle.

The external ring gear is driven by a ring with two "fangs." This ring is supported by the pressure of the timing belt drive pinion. When installing the oil pump housing, make sure that the specified "fangs" are in the slots on the gear.

Attention! In the drawing representing the connecting rod and piston system (crankshaft-connecting rods, pistons), the location of the oil pump is shown.

After installing the oil pump housing on the engine body, it only needs to be secured with three bolts; the remaining bolts will be installed later. The oil pump housing is secured with two 22mm long bolts and six 30mm long bolts.
