The air required by the engine is supplied by a turbocharger at a pressure higher than atmospheric, which allows for greater efficiency. The turbocharger does not require any special control. Its speed and efficiency change automatically as the load and engine speed change. The rotation speed of the turbocharger is relatively high. The bearings are lubricated by oil from the main oil line after passing through a special filter with a liner that cannot be restored. This bearing needs to be replaced regularly, otherwise contamination can occur and although oil will flow into the bearing, it will be unfiltered.
Attention:
- It is recommended not to increase the engine speed before stopping it to avoid a situation where the turbocharger rotates under its own acceleration (after stopping the engine) and as a result, no lubrication. But it is recommended to have the turbocharger repaired in a workshop. It must be entrusted to the manufacturer's representative.
- It is recommended to periodically check the tightness of the connections of the oil supply and outlet pipes, the fastening of the downcomer and outlet manifolds (risk of engine fire due to leaks) and recharging pressure.
Checking the charging pressure
The charging pressure is checked on the highway.
- Connect the appropriate pressure gauge as shown in Figure 2.61.

- Engage 2nd gear with the accelerator pedal pressed fully down, braking the car so that its speed is approximately 30 km/h and the engine speed is 4000 rpm.
- The value shown by the pressure gauge should be 0.064-0.072 MPa.
If the charging pressure is too high, it is recommended to replace the turbocharger as the pressure regulating valve is damaged.
If the recharging pressure is too low, disconnect the flexible wire of the unloader valve from the air pump wire and plug it with a suitable plug (diameter 25 mm).

- Check the charging pressure again and if it is normal, replace the unloader valve. If the pressure remains too low, replace the entire turbocharger assembly.
