Removal the turbocharger (VW Golf 3)

When working with the turbocharging system, it is especially important to maintain cleanliness. Therefore: the connection points and their surroundings must be thoroughly cleaned before loosening, removed parts must be stored only in a clean place, open parts must be covered to protect against dirt, only clean new parts must be installed, do not work with compressed air and do not move the car.

Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

Remove the air hoses from the exhaust pipe to the turbocharger and from the air filter to the turbocharger.

Unscrew the oil supply pipes together with the contact point on the turbocharger.

Unscrew the oil drain pipe from the turbocharger.

Underneath it, loosen the mounting bolts that attach the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold. To do this, use a 12 mm wrench, a long extension, and a universal joint from the wrench set.

Pull the turbocharger up after unscrewing the bolts.

Installation

First of all, install the turbocharger so that it can move a little. To do this, do not tighten the fixing nuts on the exhaust pipe too much at first.



Screw in the four bolts for mounting the boost on the exhaust manifold and tighten to the required tightening torque.

Now tighten the nuts on the exhaust pipe completely.

Before installing the oil supply pipes, it is necessary to apply a little fresh oil to the connection points.

After installation, do not operate the engine at high speeds, as the supercharger lubrication is not yet fully provided. Let the engine idle for the first few minutes.
