Diesel engine fuel system and turbocharger (VW Sharan 1)

The car is equipped with a diesel engine with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. The direct fuel injection system is a joint development of Bosch, Audi and Volkswagen. The peculiarity of this system is the use of electronically controlled injectors, which operate twice during one working stroke. First, a small amount of fuel (precharge) is injected into the cylinder. After the precharge has burned out, the main portion of fuel is injected. Due to this, the combustion process is softened, the toxicity of exhaust gases and the noise level are reduced.

If any faults are detected in any sensor or system component, they will be recorded by the fault recorder, which will allow these faults to be accurately identified later at the service station using special diagnostic equipment.
