Apply the handbrake and place the shift lever in neutral. Turn on the ignition.
Using an additional 4 mm wire2, connect terminals 30 and 50.
If the starter motor spins, the starter power supply circuit is faulty.
Cause | Elimination Method |
Starter not working | |
Low battery | Charge the battery. |
When terminals 30 and 50 are connected, the starter starts to work | Repair the starter power circuit. |
Open or short to ground in the starter wire | Check the condition of the wires and, if necessary, replace them. |
Reducing current due to poor fastening or oxidation of wire contacts | Clean the contacts and secure the wires securely. |
No voltage at terminal 50 of the traction relay | An open in the starter power supply circuit that needs to be repaired. |
The starter rotates slowly and does not turn the engine crankshaft
Low battery | Charge the battery. |
Reducing current due to poor fastening or oxidation of wire contacts | Clean the contacts and secure the wires securely. |
The carbon brushes are not tight enough to the commutator or are defective | Check the condition and, if necessary, replace the carbon brushes. |
The carbon brushes do not come into contact with the commutator | Replace carbon brushes. |
The working surface of the collector is damaged | Regrind the working surface of the collector or replace the anchor. |
The voltage supplied to the starter is less than 10 V | Check starter relay or traction relay. |
Faulty traction relay | Replace the traction relay. |
The starter operates normally, but does not turn the engine crankshaft
Dirty or defective starter drive gear | Clean or replace starter drive gear. |
Worn flywheel ring gear | Replace flywheel. |
The starter gear does not disengage from the flywheel ring gear
Dirty or damaged starter drive gear or screw threads on the starter shaft | Clean or replace the drive gear or starter armature. |
Faulty traction relay | Replace the traction relay. |
Decreased elasticity or broken return spring | Replace return spring. |
The starter continues to work after turning it off with the ignition key
Burning of the contacts of the traction relay | Switch off the ignition immediately or remove the ground wire from the battery. |
Ignition switch does not disable starter | Immediately remove the ground wire from the battery and replace the ignition switch. |
