Diagnostics of lubrication system faults (VW Transporter T4)

Cause	Method of elimination
The indicator lamp does not flash after the ignition is turned off
The 0.3 bar mass pressure sensor is faulty (brown insulation)	Turn on the ignition, disconnect the wiring from the oil pressure sensor and connect it to ground. If the indicator lamp flashes, replace the sensor
No current supply to the sensor	Check the wiring and connections
The control lamp is faulty	Replace the indicator lamp
The control device is faulty	Replace the control unit. The control unit is located behind the instrument panel
The indicator light does not go out after starting the engine
The oil is very hot	If the control lamp goes out after gas is supplied, everything is normal and no repair is required
TOthe control lamp does not go out after gas is supplied or lights up while driving
Oil pressure too low	Check the oil level, top up if necessary; check oil pressure as prescribed
The wiring of the 0.3 bar oil pressure sensor shorted to ground	Disconnect the wire from the sensor, isolate and set aside (do not apply to mass), turn on the ignition. If the indicator light comes on, check the wiring
Oil pressure sensor 0.3 bar is faulty	Replace the sensor
The indicator lamp flashes while driving and a sound signal is emitted
Oil pressure sensor 1.8 bar (gasoline engine) or 0.9 bar (diesel engine) out of order	Check the oil pressure, check the oil pressure sensor. If the oil pressure is OK and the buzzer sounds, you can briefly disconnect the wiring and connect it to ground to continue driving. If the buzzer continues to work, remove the control relay from the frame. Without delay, check the oil pressure sensor and the control unit, replace if necessary
Oil pressure too low at all speeds
Too little oil in the engine	Add engine oil
The pump suction strainer is dirty	Remove the oil pan, clean the intake screen
The oil pump is worn out	Remove the oil pump and check, replace if necessary
The main bearings have failed	Remove the engine and repair it
Too low oil pressure at low revs
The pressure control valve is stuck in the open position due to contamination	Remove and check the valve
Oil pressure too high at speeds above 2000 rpm
The control valve does not open due to contamination	Remove and check the valve
