Warning: Optimum brake pad clearance is maintained by the automatic adjustment mechanism, however, when replacing the handbrake cables or rear brake caliper, the handbrake must be adjusted.
Order of execution
1. Fully depress the brake pedal at least once.
2. Fully release the handbrake.
3. Pull up to remove the ashtray from the rear of the center console.
4. Loosen the rear wheel bolts, then raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it on stands. Remove rear wheels.
5. Remove the non-reusable plastic parts from the handbrake cable compensator.
6. Use a screwdriver blade to secure the handbrake cable compensator from turning.
7. Adjust the handbrake cable as follows.
8. Remove the retainer (4) (see fig. Hand brake cable).
9. Turning the adjusting nut, tighten it until it stops, while the groove for the latch should be blocked.
10. Relocate handbrake cable sheath (2 and 3) (see fig. Hand brake cable) towards each other.
11. Turn the adjusting nut in the opposite direction until the groove for the lock appears.
12. Install the retainer.
13. By pulling in different directions, stretch the sheaths of the handbrake cable (2 and 3) (see fig. Hand brake cable) on both handbrake cables until the cable is fully tensioned (arrows). At the same time, check that the hand brake lever on the caliper does not move.
14. Remove the screwdriver from the handbrake cable compensator and apply the handbrake several times.
15. Check that the handbrake cables are properly tensioned. With the correct tension of the handbrake cables, the distance (A) there should be no more than 1.5 mm between the hand brake lever and the brake caliper.
16. Otherwise, re-adjust, for which, unscrewing or screwing the adjusting sleeve (1) (see fig. Clutch cable handbrake), adjust the handbrake cable so that the distance between the handbrake lever and the caliper is no more than 1.5mm.
Warning: When making adjustments, rotate the adjusting collar until the colored O-ring protrudes from the end of the adjusting collar. Otherwise, water and dirt will get into the handbrake cable adjustment element.
17. Install and bolt the rear wheels.
18. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to 120 Nm.
19. Replace the ashtray.
