Warning: The brake shoe clearance is maintained by an automatic adjustment mechanism, however, when replacing the handbrake cables or rear brake caliper, the handbrake must be adjusted.


Execution order



1. Press the brake pedal fully down at least once.

2. Release the handbrake completely.

3. Pull up to remove the ashtray from the rear of the center console.

4. Loosen the rear wheel mounting bolts, then raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it on stands. Remove the rear wheels.

5. Remove any plastic parts from the handbrake cable compensator that cannot be reused.

6. Use a screwdriver blade to prevent the handbrake cable compensator from turning.

7. Adjust the handbrake cable as follows.

8. Remove the retainer (4) (see fig. Handbrake cable).

9. Turn the adjusting nut until it stops, covering the groove for the locking pin.

10. Move the handbrake cable housings (2 and 3) (see fig. Handbrake cable) towards each other.

11. Turn the adjusting nut in the opposite direction until the groove for the lock appears.

12. Install the retainer.

13. Pull in different directions to stretch the handbrake cable sheaths (2 and 3) (see fig. Handbrake cable) on both handbrake cables until the cable is fully tensioned (arrows). At the same time, check that the handbrake lever on the caliper does not move.


14. Remove the screwdriver from the handbrake cable compensator and tighten the handbrake several times.

15. Check that the handbrake cables are tensioned correctly. When the handbrake cables are tensioned correctly, the distance (A) between the handbrake lever and the brake caliper should be no more than 1.5 mm.

16. Otherwise, re-adjust by unscrewing or screwing the adjusting sleeve (1) (see fig. Handbrake cable coupling), adjust the handbrake cable so that the distance between the handbrake lever and the caliper is no more than 1.5 mm.

Warning: When making adjustments, turn the adjusting sleeve so that the colored sealing ring does not protrude from the end of the adjusting sleeve. Otherwise, water and dirt will enter the handbrake cable adjusting element.


17. Install and bolt the rear wheels.

18. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to 120 Nm.

19. Replace the ashtray.
