Remove the timing belt protective covers. Remove the timing belt tensioner roller, crankshaft pulley and shoe. Remove the timing belt. Remove the intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Loosen the cylinder head mounting bolts in the reverse order of tightening (Fig. 3-11).

Remove the cylinder head.
Note: Replace the cylinder head mounting bolts with new ones each time the cylinder head is removed.

Install the cylinder head in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before installing the cylinder head on the cylinder block, align the TDC mark on the flywheel with the installation protrusion in the clutch housing hatch;
- if necessary, measure the piston protrusion relative to the plane of the cylinder block, calculate the arithmetic mean value and determine the thickness of the cylinder head gasket in accordance with Table 3-7;
- turn the crankshaft counterclockwise so that the pistons of all cylinders are approximately at the same level;
- install the cylinder head, tighten the mounting bolts by hand and tighten them using the specified techniques and in the specified order (Fig. 3-11).
