Checking the operation of the ignition timing control subsystem (VW Passat B4)

The test should be performed on an engine warmed up to an oil temperature of at least 80°C. Connect the ignition timing tester and the control tachometer in accordance with the operating instructions. Start the engine and let it idle. Increase the engine crankshaft speed to 3500 rpm and check the ignition timing advance angle, which should be within 32-36° before TDC. To set the ignition timing advance angle, use the VW 1551 unit. If the ignition timing advance angle does not match the specified limit, check the electrical wires and connections of the KSUD. If they are in good condition, replace the controller.

Electrical connection diagram of the KSUD "Digifant 3.0/3.2" is given in the section "Electrical equipment" (Fig. 8-42).

To identify possible malfunctions of the control system "Digifant 3.0/3.2", their causes and methods of elimination, use the appropriate table related to the KSUD "Simos".

Valve winding resistance 3.5-4.5 Ohm.
