Note. The normal deflection of the belt when pressing the longest section of the belt with your thumb is 2 mm for a new belt and 5 mm for a used belt.
Loosen the bolts of the generator bracket and tension bar so that the generator rotates under its own weight (pic. 8-5).
On a generator with a toothed tensioner, adjust the belt tension by turning the tensioner bolt with a torque wrench to 8 Nm for a new belt and 4 Nm for a used belt. On an alternator with a smooth tension bar, adjust the belt tension with a lever inserted between the engine block and the alternator. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts and check the belt tension again.
