The tension of the V-belt should be adjusted after each removal, replacement, and as the tension loosens. In addition, the V-belt tension must be adjusted at regular intervals. When the belt slips at high speeds, a piercing sound is heard, which indicates that the belt tension needs to be adjusted.
The belt tension is checked in the area between the pulleys mounted on the crankshaft and the generator shaft. The deflection of the belt from the force of the hand should not exceed 10-15 mm. To increase the belt tension, loosen the alternator mounting bolts and its bracket, and then use a screwdriver to move the alternator out. While holding the alternator in this position, tighten the bolts.
