To remove, disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. Apply alignment marks to the wire connectors and disconnect them. Loosen the generator bracket mounting bolt (two mounting bolts on cars with 16-valve engines) and the tension bar bolt, loosen the alternator drive belt and remove the belt, having first removed the power steering pump drive belt, depending on the vehicle configuration. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator.
When installing, place the alternator in place and tighten the mounting bolts without tightening them. Put on the alternator drive belt and, depending on the configuration, the power steering pump drive belt. Adjust the alternator drive belt tension as indicated below. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.
Connect the wire connectors to the generator using the previously applied marks. Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Start the engine and make sure that the battery charge indicator lamp goes out.
