Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and engine block, and then check for warping of the mating surfaces of the cylinder head. Checking is carried out using a metal ruler laid on the mating plane (see fig. 54) in the transverse, perpendicular and diagonal directions, and a set of flat probes.
If a zone is found in which the gap exceeds 0.10 mm, then the mating plane of the head must be machined to restore flatness. In case of severe warping of the mating plane, the head must be replaced.
