Removal
Remove the drain plug from the oil pan and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
Loosen the pan mounting bolts and remove it together with the gasket (figure G:36).
Remove the two bolts securing the oil pump to the crankcase and remove the pump.
Inspection
Loosen the bolts, remove the pump cover with the oil intake, then remove the gears and drive shaft from the pump housing.
Inspect the gears, drive shaft and inside surface of the pump housing for damage or excessive wear.
Check the tooth clearance and axial play of the pump gears as shown in Figures G:34 and G:35. If the play is outside the limits specified in Section "Technical data", replace the entire pump assembly.

Installation
Remove the oil intake screen filter by pressing the end plate with a screwdriver. Wash the screen filter.
Install the pump on the crankcase and secure it with two bolts. Before tightening the bolts, make sure that the pump drive shaft is engaged with the distributor drive.
Install the oil pan with a new gasket. Before tightening the oil pan mounting bolts, make sure the gasket is installed correctly. If socket head cap screws are used instead of hex head bolts, they should be tightened to a lower torque (see section "Technical data").
Tighten the oil pan drain plug and fill the engine with the correct grade of engine oil (see section "Technical data") To fill the pan you need approximately 3.0 liters of oil.
