Instruction: When carrying out further work, do not allow brake fluid to get on the side member or gearbox. If this does happen, the area must be thoroughly cleaned. Place a rag that does not leave fibers on the parts under the master cylinder.
Clamp hose to clutch master cylinder with clamp -3094-. It can also be closed with plug -T10249/1-.
In the course of further work, the clutch pedal position sender -C476- -arrow 1- and the locking clip -arrow 2- must be removed. They are located in the immediate vicinity of the brake booster -A-. They are partially covered by the amplifier.
Detach hose -1- from master cylinder. Unlock retaining clip -2- and disconnect pipe -3- from master cylinder. Disconnect the clutch pedal position sender -G476- located next to the hose -arrow- from the master cylinder and remove it together with the connected connector -4-. Remove the storage compartment and trim on the driver's side.
Carefully cut through the cable tie -1-. If present, disconnect cable duct -2- from steering column. Remove footwell air duct -3-.
Remove roll cage element -1- by unscrewing bolt -2-. Unscrew the fuse box on the left under the dash panel and move it to the side. Disconnect the relay box on the left under the front panel and move it to the side.
Loosen the indicated nuts on the mounting bracket -arrows-.
If fitted, remove noise insulation cover -arrow- from lower part of clutch pedal support bracket.
To do this, remove the clamping washers -A- for the soundproofing cover. Detach soundproof cover. Wrap insulating tape around universal joint from socket wrench set -VAG 1835-.
Pull wiring harness -1-with extension-2- from set -VAG 1835- -arrow- to left and upwards.
If fitted, pull upwards -arrow- on noise insulation and area of upper securing nut -1- above brake pedal -A-. Unscrew the upper fastening nut -1 - of the support bracket. The nut -1- can be unscrewed by passing the wrench extension between the relay box and the steering column.
Then unscrew both lower mounting nuts -2- of the support bracket and remove the support bracket. Remove support bracket -3-. If present, detach soundproofing hood.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. On some vehicles, a soundproof cover -arrow- is fitted to the clutch pedal support bracket.
Instruction: Self-locking nuts must be replaced.
Refit roll cage element -1- and tighten bolt -2- to the correct torque. On the driver's side, install the trim and the cover under it. Insert pipe -1- with new seal -2- into master cylinder connection -4-, a characteristic click of retaining clip -3- should be heard.
Check that the connection is secure by pulling on the pipeline. Remove clamp -3094- from hose to master cylinder and reshape hose if necessary. Bleed the hydraulic clutch. Install battery. Reinstall the air filter housing assembly, if removed. Tightening torque: roll cage element to support bracket - 20 Nm. Replace the safety cage element mounting bolt.
