The following operations can be performed using remote radio control without using conventional keys:
  • using the central door locking system to unlock and lock the doors,
  • turn on and off the self-insurance and security alarm system,
  • limit the operation of the individual door opening mode to the driver's door only,
  • turn on the interior lighting.

The radio transmitter with batteries is located in the head of the car key. The radio receiver is located in the car interior.

The maximum range depends on many factors. As the battery discharges, the range decreases.

Unlocking and locking the car

Unlocking and locking the car

Unlocking and locking the car

To unlock the car, point the key in the direction of the car while in the device's coverage area and briefly press the unlock button (arrow 1). To lock the car, briefly press the lock button (arrow 2). By pressing the lock button (arrow 2) twice, you turn off the self-insurance and alarm system, which is accompanied by a brief flashing of the direction indicators.

The indicator lamp in the key head flashes as long as the unlock and lock buttons are pressed. If this lamp does not flash, the battery in the key is discharged. The battery condition should be checked at a Volkswagen service center, where the battery will be replaced if necessary.

With the self-insurance and security alarm systems enabled, when the car is unlocked using the remote control release button, all locks are automatically locked if no car door or trunk lid is opened for 30 seconds (back door). The self-insurance and alarm system are inactive during these 30 seconds. This prevents accidental unlocking of the car within the range of the remote radio control of the locks.

Unlocking a single door

Unlocking when individual door unlocking mode is enabled

To unlock the vehicle, while within the range of the remote control, point the key at the vehicle and briefly press the unlock button (arrow 1) once.

Now only one driver's door is unlocked. The self-insurance and alarm system are immediately switched off, which is accompanied by the flashing of all direction indicators.

Pressing the unlock button (arrow 1) twice will unlock all vehicle locks.

The self-insurance and alarm system are switched off.

Synchronization

If the car does not unlock when the corresponding remote control button is pressed, it should be assumed that the codes of the key and the control unit on the car no longer match. This can happen if the control buttons have been pressed frequently outside the system's operating range.

It is necessary to resynchronize the system. The synchronization process lasts no more than 1 minute and consists of the following:

1 – Press once within one second either the unlock button (arrow 1) or the lock button (arrow 2) of your remote control key. The car remains locked. However, the control unit recognizes the existing code;

2 – Now unlock or lock the car mechanically once using the remote control key;

3 – The key bit has been identified as a valid mechanical code. A new replacement code has been matched between the key and the control unit. The synchronization process is complete.

Uncoded keys can be obtained from a Volkswagen service centre. The second key must, however, be synchronised at a Volkswagen service centre, since the anti-theft code must also be entered into the key head.
