The switches are located in the driver's door armrest.

The switches are located in the driver's door armrest.

  • 1 - driver's door,
  • 2 - front passenger door,
  • 3 - safety switch,
  • 4 - rear right door,
  • 5 - rear left door

5 - rear left door

In addition, there are additional switches for the corresponding windows in the front passenger door and in the rear doors.

The electric drive of the rear windows can be switched off using the safety switch 3 in the driver's door.

The safety switch is unlocked, the switches in the rear doors are operational.

The safety switch is locked, the switches in the rear doors are disabled.

Electric windows with automatic window closing control are equipped with overload protection.

The window closing is automatically stopped when an obstacle is encountered in the glass's path. However, this does not happen when the windows are closed from the outside using the ignition key - the overload protection does not operate.

Operation of window lifts with ignition on

Opening

By pressing the corresponding switch in front (driver's door) or on the bottom edge of the switch (right front door and rear doors) and holding this position for a short time, the window opens completely (automatic when lowering the glass).

When the switch is pressed again, the glass stops immediately.

Closing windows using automation (front doors)

When the front part is raised briefly (driver's door) or by pressing the top edge (right front door) the corresponding switch closes the window completely (automatic glass lift).

When the switch is pressed again, the glass stops immediately.

The rear door windows are equipped with an automatic window lowering device only. To close the window, hold the switch until the desired window position is reached.

Overload protection

1 – If something prevents the glass from moving when closing the window of one of the front doors (overload protection tripped), the window immediately opens again.

2 – After the window has opened, you should lift the switch of the corresponding window again within 5 seconds and hold it. If the window does not close due to difficulty moving the glass or due to the presence of some obstacle, the glass stops in an intermediate position.

3 – After the glass has stopped, you must lift the switch again within 5 seconds and hold it to close the window. The window will now close without overload protection.

If the pause between your individual actions exceeds 5 seconds, when you press the switch again, the window opens completely again.

Closing a window without the help of automation

Hold the switch in the raised position by the top edge (driver's window) or press the top edge of the switch (right front window and rear side windows) until the window is completely closed.

Please note that the window closes without the overload protection device in effect.

Operation of window lifts when ignition is off

The windows remain operational for 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off, as long as one of the front doors is not opened.

On cars with central locking, the windows can also be closed or opened from the outside. To do this, simply hold the key in the lock of one of the front doors in the locked or unlocked position.

Opening

When pressing forward (driver's window) or to the lower edge (for right front window and rear side windows) the corresponding switch and holding it in this position for a short time opens the window completely (automatic when lowering the glass).

When the switch is pressed again, the glass stops immediately.

Closing

Keep the front edge of the derailleur in the raised position (driver's window) or the top edge in the pressed position (for right front window and rear side windows) until the window is completely closed. The automatic glass closing system does not work.

If the movement of the glass when closing the window of one of the front doors is difficult or something obstructs it, the window immediately opens again (overload protection).

In this case, the window can only be closed by turning on the ignition.

After disconnecting and then reconnecting the vehicle's battery, the automatic lowering and raising of the front door windows stops functioning.

In order to restore the automation, you need to do the following:
  • lock the car from the outside using one of the front doors. Make sure that all doors and windows are completely closed;
  • relock the vehicle using one of the front doors. Hold the key in the lock position for at least one second.

The automatic raising of the front windows, as well as the lowering of all windows, will be turned on again.

If a malfunction occurs in the electric window lifter, this is indicated by the flashing of the backlight of the switches in the front doors, as well as in the rear doors.

If all the light inserts in the door trim flash for approximately 15 seconds after the ignition is switched on, you should contact a Volkswagen service centre.
