Removing
Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the hood.
Remove the plug from the expansion tank.
Disconnect the radiator supply hose from the thermostat housing and drain the coolant.
Disconnect the cooling and heating hoses from the engine.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the brake booster.
Depending on the configuration, loosen the bolts securing the power steering pump, loosen and remove the pump drive belt. Unscrew the pump mounting bolts and fix the pump in the engine compartment without disconnecting the hoses from it. a Disconnect the wires from the electrical components installed on the engine (sensors, ignition system components, carburetor electromagnetic shut-off valve, generator, fuel injection system components). a On engines with a WN engine, disconnect the vacuum hose from the reservoir.
Disconnect the throttle control cable.
On vehicles with a cable-operated clutch, disconnect the clutch cable.
Unscrew the upper bolts securing the gearbox to the engine, except for the bolt located at the level of the clutch actuator.
On vehicles with a WN engine, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the fuel pump, and the fuel drain hose from the carburetor.
On vehicles with a JS engine, disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses from the fuel dispenser. Remove the air filter housing. Disconnect and remove the injector tubes.
Disconnect the high voltage wires and remove the ignition distributor cover.
Remove the front engine mount.
Loosen the nuts securing the engine mount brackets.
Remove generator.
Loosen the front subframe mounting bolts.
Disconnect wires from starter and remove starter.
Detach the front muffler pipe from the exhaust manifold flange.
On vehicles with automatic transmission, remove the torque converter mounting bolts.
Detach the front muffler pipe from the bracket on the gearbox.
Loosen the lower gearbox-to-engine bolts.
Install the gearbox stand.
Hang the engine with a lifting device.
Remove the left engine mount bracket.
Raise the engine slightly and support the gearbox with a stand.
Disconnect the engine from the gearbox and remove the engine from the engine compartment by turning it towards the left side of the compartment.
Installation
Install the engine in the engine compartment, having previously checked the alignment of the clutch disc, the degree of wear of the clutch release bearing and apply a thin layer of grease to the splines of the input shaft of the gearbox.
Install the upper gearbox-to-engine bolts and install the engine mount brackets.
Remove the stand from under the gearbox.
Tighten the lower gearbox-to-engine bolts.
On vehicles with automatic transmission, tighten the bolts securing the torque converter to the drive flange.
Attach the front muffler pipe to the exhaust manifold flange and to the gearbox bracket.
Install starter.
Tighten the front subframe mounting bolts.
Install the front engine mount.
Install generator.
On vehicles with a JS engine, connect the pipes to the injectors. Install the air filter housing together with the fuel dispenser.
On vehicles with a WN engine, connect the fuel supply hose to the fuel pump and the fuel drain hose to the carburetor. Attach vacuum hoses to carburetor.
Attach and adjust the clutch cable.
Connect the throttle control cable.
Connect the connectors of the electrical equipment components installed on the engine.
Depending on the equipment, reinstall the power steering pump.
Put V-belts on the pulleys and adjust their tension.
Connect the engine cooling and interior heating hoses.
Fill the cooling system with fluid.
Check the oil level in the oil sump.
Install the hood.
Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Start the engine and check the ignition timing, engine idle adjustment. If necessary, adjust the clearances in the valve drive mechanism.
