Order of execution
1. Set the transmission lever to neutral position and tighten the handbrake lever.
2. Disconnect and lift up a protective cover of the lever of a manual brake.
3. Loosen clamping bolt (indicated by an arrow) on the shift lever.
4. The rod connection should move easily after loosening the clamping collar.
5. Loosen the bolts (1 and 2) and press all the way down on the lower right side of the base (arrow). tighten bolt (1) the required moment.
6. Move the shift lever to the 5th gear position and install the adjusting gauge VW-3421.
7. Move the shift lever to the 3rd-4th gear position.
8. Move the gearshift control rod to the idle position and tighten the clamp mounting bolt to 25 Nm.
9. Remove the adjusting gauge.
10. Engage reverse gear.
11. Loosen the bolt (1) and press the left side of the base of the gear lever down until it stops (see fig. in paragraph 5). Tighten the bolts (1 and 2) torque 25 Nm.
12. Check for smooth shifting, especially reverse gear.
13. If the gearshift mechanism does not work clearly, fine-tune the adjustment. Set the shift lever to the 1st gear position and check the gap (A), which should be 2 mm. Otherwise, loosen the bolts (1 and 2, see fig. in paragraph 5) and set the required clearance. Tighten the mounting bolts to 25 Nm.
