Power steering (VW Golf 2)

The reservoir with the working fluid is installed in the engine compartment next to the battery. The steering gear is filled with lubricating oil for hydraulic systems VWN G 002 000. For normal operation of the steering gear, it is necessary to strictly maintain the required level of working fluid in the reservoir.

The power steering fluid level must be checked regularly according to the schedule with the engine running and the wheels aligned straight.

The fluid level must be between the "max" and "min" marks. If the fluid level is below the "min" mark, have the power steering system inspected by a Volkswagen dealer. Simply adding hydraulic fluid is not sufficient in this case.

Note: If there is not enough hydraulic fluid in the system, the pump and other components may be damaged, since the hydraulic fluid also functions as a lubricant.

Avoid using brake fluid instead of hydraulic fluid as it may cause damage to the power steering system.

If the power steering system is faulty or if the engine is not running (for example, a towed vehicle), you still have the ability to steer the car, but it will require significantly more effort.
