Auxiliary jumper cables
An auxiliary vehicle should be placed at such a distance from "Volkswagen", so that the batteries of both machines can be connected via the starter auxiliary cables.
Check that all current consumers are switched off in a de-energized vehicle.
Attach the clamps of one of the cables to both positive poles of the batteries.
Connect the other auxiliary starter cable first to the negative pole of a charged external battery and then in the engine compartment of a de-energized machine to an uninsulated ground (e.g. directly to the engine).
Allow the auxiliary vehicle engine to run at a higher speed. so that the generator gives a lot of voltage.
If the engine does not start immediately, pause from time to time to cool the starter. Then start the engine of the auxiliary machine again, due to which the discharged battery is additionally charged.
When disconnecting the starter auxiliary cable clamps, first remove the negative terminal of a charged foreign battery.
Towing start
A vehicle with a diesel engine can only be towed if the battery current is still sufficient to heat up the glow plugs. Otherwise, only the auxiliary starter cable will help.
Turn on the ignition.
Enable 2nd speed.
Press the clutch pedal all the way down. Set the car in motion.
Release the clutch pedal quickly. The engine should work.
Immediately press the clutch pedal and then the accelerator pedal.
Car towing
When towing, the diesel engine can be started even without preheating. During towing with the engine running, a considerable distance must be covered before the diesel engine starts to operate. Remember that while the engine is not running, the brake booster does not function!
Switch on the ignition, 2nd gear and press the clutch pedal.
The tractor must move slowly.
When the speed reaches approximately 15 km/h, slowly release the clutch pedal.
If the engine is running, depress the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal.
Gently apply the handbrake to avoid crashing into the car in front.
Give the towing driver a sound signal.
Start idling, release the clutch pedal.
At the same time, smoothly slow down the hand brake for the drivers of both cars.
If the fuel has solidified to a gelatinous state, do not tow the car for long distances, as there will not be enough lubrication of the fuel pump.
