Disconnecting the battery

Instructions: Disconnecting the ground wire on the battery (chain break) provides the ability to work safely on electrical devices. Disconnecting the positive terminal is only necessary to remove the battery.

Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers. Open the battery cover "1",

First, unscrew the ground cable terminal "1" from the negative terminal of the battery. Then unscrew the positive terminal "2" from the positive terminal of the battery.

Connecting terminals to the battery

Instructions: After connecting the battery and turning on the ignition, the light comes on (constantly glowing) electronic stability control system (ASR/ESP) indicator lamp -K/55-. The indicator lamp goes out automatically when the speed reaches 15-20 km/h and the vehicle is moving in a straight line. At the same time, the steering wheel angle sensor "G85" is activated again. The central gas outlet hose of the automatic transmission must not be kinked, closed and/or damaged. The gases formed in the battery are harmful to health and explosive. Carefully lay the hose and ensure that the battery does not interfere and that the gas outlet is not directed into the vehicle interior.

Place the positive terminal "2" on the positive terminal of the battery and tighten the mounting bolt to the specified tightening torque. Place the ground wire "1" on the negative terminal of the battery and tighten the mounting bolt to the specified tightening torque. Perform the actions in the sequence indicated below.

Sequence of actions after connecting the battery

Switch ignition on with ignition key and switch off again. Read fault memory: Guided fault finding with VAS 5051A. Clock: Check setting, reset if necessary. Electric window: Open all windows fully, then close. Function check: All electrical consumers.
