Replacing the cable
1. Loosen the mounting bolts of the relevant wheel. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle (see chapter "Basic rules for carrying out work"). Remove the wheel.
2. Release the handbrake completely and remove the brake drum as described above.
3. Disconnect the cable from the rear brake shoe lever. It may be necessary to remove the rear brake shoe to push back the cable return spring.
4. Disconnect the cable from the brake shield and from the bracket on the rear axle.
5. Loosen the lock nut and the cable adjusting nut on the equalizer plate (drawing O:24).

6. Remove the cable from under the vehicle.
7. Thoroughly lubricate the new cable and install it in the reverse order of removal.
8. Adjust the cable with the adjusting nut so that the rear wheel is locked when the handbrake handle is tightened until the second click of the locking mechanism. Lower the handbrake handle and check that the wheel rotates freely without friction or jamming.
9. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to the torque specified in section "Technical data".
