Unscrew the hub bolt. Remove the wheel. Unscrew the hexagonal nut "arrow" of the stabilizer strut from the shock absorber strut.

Unscrew the nuts of the "arrows". Disconnect the triangular lever from the ball joint and, accordingly, from the steering knuckle. Remove the outer joint of the drive shaft from the wheel hub. Tie the drive shaft to the body with wire.
Instruction: The drive shaft must not hang down as this will damage the inner joint.
Screw the ball joint back onto the wishbone.

Screw the jack for engines and transmission units -VAG 1383 A- together with the support mount "T10149" to the hub with a wheel bolt.

Loosen the bolt connecting the steering knuckle and the shock absorber strut "arrow".

Insert spacer "3424" into the slot of the steering knuckle.

Turn it 90° with a ratchet wrench and remove the wrench from the "3424" spacer. Press the brake disc by hand in the direction of the shock absorber strut. Otherwise, the shock absorber strut may become skewed in the steering knuckle hole. Remove the shock absorber strut from the steering knuckle hole by pulling it down. The steering knuckle must be lowered using the engine and transmission jack -VAG 1383 A- until the shock absorber strut completely exits the steering knuckle hole. Tie the steering knuckle to the subframe with wire. Remove the engine and transmission jack -VAG 1383 A- from under the steering knuckle.
Only when removing the left shock absorber strut
Remove the wiper blades "1".

Remove the casing of the water-diverting box. Unscrew the hex bolts of the upper support of the "arrow" shock absorber and remove the shock absorber strut.

Installation
Screw the engine and transmission jack -VAG 1383 A- together with the support mount "T10149" to the hub with the wheel bolt. Insert the shock absorber strut into the steering knuckle and secure it with the socket head bolt and a new nut. The end of the socket head bolt must face the front of the vehicle. Remove the spacer "3424". Both arrows on the upper support of the strut "arrows" must point parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Remove the support wire from the steering knuckle.

Carefully lift the steering knuckle with a jack until the bolts "arrow" connecting the shock absorber strut to the cup can be screwed in. If necessary, use a ladder, such as the stepladder -VAS 5085-, to screw in the bolts. Tighten the bolts securing the upper shock absorber support "arrow". Remove the support mount "T10149". Tighten the bolt securing the shock absorber strut in the steering knuckle "arrow". Unscrew the nuts "arrow". Insert the drive shaft into the wheel hub. Install the ball joint together with the steering knuckle on the triangular lever "arrow". Screw the ball joint to the triangular lever "arrow".
Instructions: Check the boot for damage or kinks.
Tighten the hub bolt.
Instructions: The car should not be standing on its wheels, otherwise the wheel bearings will be damaged.
Install the water drain box cover. Install the windshield wiper arms. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order. Install the wheel and tighten the mounting bolts.
