Removal the phase shifter
Remove the suction pipe.
Remove the high pressure pump.
Remove the cylinder head cover.

Remove the housing with the valve timing changeover valve (fig. 2.128).

Align the mark on the camshaft gear with the mark on the timing belt cover. The notches are vertically opposite each other (fig. 2.115).

Install the camshaft lock as shown in Figure 2.129 and secure it.
Unscrew the phase shifter mounting bolt using a socket wrench.

Compress the chain tensioner A and secure it with the locking pin B (fig. 2.130).
Unscrew the phase shifter mounting bolt and remove it together with the chain.
Installing a phase shifter
The camshafts must be locked with a camshaft lock.
Place the chain on the phase shifter.

Place the phase shifter in front of the exhaust camshaft to align notch A with pin B (fig. 2.131).

In this position, route the chain first at the top onto the intake camshaft sprocket (fig. 2.132).

Slowly rotate the intake camshaft with a camshaft wrench in the direction of arrow A until the phase shifter is seated on the camshaft (fig. 2.133).
Note: If the pin does not fit into the cutout, the chain must be removed and reinstalled.
Tighten the phase shifter mounting bolt. Tightening torque 20 Nm + additional tightening by +45°. Use a socket wrench for this.
Remove the locking pin B (fig. 2.130).
Further installation and assembly is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
