Note: When the battery is discharged, the parking brake continues to operate and cannot be released. Noise may occur when the parking brake operates, this is normal.
Caution: Do not use the transmission in gear instead of the parking brake. When parking, always set the parking brake and set the AT selector lever to the "P" position, or 1st gear of the manual transmission.
When stopping on an incline, park your car as close to the sidewalk or curb as possible and turn the wheels toward the center of the road so that if the car accidentally moves backwards, the front wheels will rest against the curb.
When stopping on a downhill slope, park the car as close to the sidewalk or shoulder as possible and turn the wheels toward the shoulder so that if the car accidentally moves backwards, the front wheels will rest against the curb. Every time you start the engine, check the brake system warning light - it should light when the parking brake is applied, and go out after it is released. If the warning light remains on after releasing the parking brake, this indicates a fault in the brake system that must be corrected before driving off. If the light comes on while driving, stop at the first opportunity and fix the fault.
