Pic. 1.69. Warning zone
Parking Warning System (PDC) using ultrasonic sensors determines the distance behind the car to the nearest obstacle. For this, four sensors are located in the rear bumper (pic. 1.69).
Sensors begin to give signals with a decrease in the safe distance to the object.
At a distance of approximately 1.2 m to the object (zone A in the figure fig. 1.69) an intermittent signal starts to sound. The shorter the distance to the object, the longer the signals.
When the distance is already less than about 30 cm (zone B in the figure fig. 1.69), the signal starts to sound continuously.
Further approach to the obstacle leads to the termination of the identification of the obstacle.
Inclusion
The system is activated when reverse gear is engaged, which is confirmed by an audible signal. If there was no sound signal, then the system is not functioning. The system should be checked by a Volkswagen workshop.
Shutdown
When disengaging reverse gear.
Attention: The parking warning signal does not relieve the driver of the need to control the movement of the car. The entire responsibility for the consequences of inattentive parking lies with the driver.
Attention: For sensors there is a dead zone where neither people nor objects are recognized.
Attention: When parking, pay special attention to small children and animals, as sensors do not always recognize them.
Attention: Obstacles such as trailer drawbars, small-diameter varnished rods, fences and barriers under certain conditions are not recognized by sensors, which can lead to damage to the vehicle if maneuvered inattentively.
Above approximately 15 km/h, the system begins to err and it becomes impossible to judge the actual distance to the obstacle.
For reliable operation of the system, the sensors must be free of dirt and ice. When cleaning sensors with steam jets, this should be done quickly and at a distance of no closer than 10 cm.
On vehicles with a standard tow hitch, when a trailer is attached, the warning alarm system does not turn on when reversing.
