Warning. After work on the front wheel drive shafts, check the position of the anti-vibration weights of the shafts in accordance with the dimensions specified in subsection «Device Features».
Remove wheel cover. Brake the wheels with the main brake system and unscrew the wheel hub nut. Raise the front of the car on the desired side and place it on a stand. Remove front wheel. Unscrew the two bolts securing the telescopic front suspension strut to the steering knuckle (pic. 5-2).
Pic. 5-2. Telescopic pole mounts:
I - top;
II - lower.
The arrow shows the bolts for attaching the strut to the steering knuckle.
Warning. The camber of the front wheels is adjusted by changing the position of the bolts securing the telescopic strut to the steering knuckle. Therefore, before unscrewing the bolts, put marks on them so that when installing the rack, wrap them in their original position.
Loosen the bolts securing the inner joint of the wheel drive shaft to the flange of the differential output shaft (pic. 4-81). Using a soft-faced hammer, press the drive shaft out of the wheel hub. Remove the wheel drive shaft.
The wheel drive shaft is installed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- depending on the configuration, replace the glued gasket of the inner joint of the shaft;
- tighten the bolts for fastening the telescopic front suspension strut according to the marks made when removing the shaft, and tighten them to a torque of 9.5 kgf·m.
Removal and installation of the right wheel drive roller shaft is carried out as described above. Depending on the equipment, first remove the air shield from the front suspension arm. To remove the left wheel drive roller shaft:
- sling the power unit;
- completely unscrew the bolt of the front bracket of the gearbox mount and the bolt of the front bracket of the engine mount;
- raise the power unit. Without lifting the car, unscrew the hex nut securing the wheel drive shaft;
- unscrew the bolts securing the shaft to the flange of the output shaft of the differential;
- fully unscrew the bolts at the end of the lower control arm to remove the wheel drive shaft.
Note. Pre-apply installation marks.
- turn the vehicle wheel to the left, if necessary placing a spacer of wood or similar material between the suspension strut and the wheel housing;
- move the power unit towards the front of the vehicle and remove the wheel drive shaft.
Installation of a shaft of a drive of the left wheel is made in an order, the return to removal.
To prevent accidental displacement of the joint when installing the wheel drive shaft, secure the joint with adhesive tape. Remove the tape only immediately before tightening the bolts securing the joint to the flange of the differential output shaft.
