Replacing the protective covers of the outer joints of the front wheel drive shafts (VW Passat B4)

Remove the clamps of the protective cover and slide the cover along the shaft.

Press the inner joint off the shaft using a hammer with an aluminum striker. Remove the spring retaining ring, thrust ring, spring washer and protective cover.

Place a new protective cover on the wheel drive shaft. Place a spring washer on the shaft with the concave side facing the thrust ring. Place the thrust ring on the shaft and install a new retaining ring.

Clean the inner joint of the wheel drive shaft and put 90 g of grease in it. Press the inner joint onto the shaft by hitting the end of the joint with a hammer with an aluminum striker. Slide the protective cover into place and secure it with two new clamps.
