Vacuum brake booster — design description (VW Golf 2)

The installed vacuum booster has a diameter of 180 mm. Vacuum booster (figure 432) it is not recommended to repair it, as special equipment is required for its disassembly and installation. Failure of the vacuum booster does not lead to a decrease in braking efficiency, but only to an increase in the force on the brake pedal.



The correct operation of the vacuum booster can be checked as follows:

With the engine off, press the brake pedal several times until the vacuum in the system disappears.

Press the brake pedal with moderate force and start the engine.

If the vacuum booster is working properly, the brake pedal should drop noticeably.

The vacuum booster can be removed by unscrewing four nuts from the interior of the car. Please note that cars with automatic transmission have a larger vacuum booster.
