Parking brake — design description (VW Golf 2)

The transmission of braking force is carried out mechanically. If you pull the lever 2 (figure 434) parking brake, both cables connected to the equalizer bracket going to the rear wheels are pulled. Thanks to the cable equalizer, the force when tightening the brake is distributed evenly between the rear brakes. Slight fluctuations in the friction value of both cables are equalized. When tightening the parking brake, the force is transmitted through the branches of the cable to the rear shoe of the rear brake. Under the action of this force, the secondary shoe is pressed against the drum, and then through the spacer bar the force is transmitted to the front shoe, and the wheels are braked.
