Replacing the parking brake cable (VW Golf 2)

Support the car from behind and release the parking brake.

Remove the extension from the center console in the passenger compartment.

Loosen the lock nut and adjusting nut on the equalizer.

Remove the brake drums.

Remove the brake shoes and unhook the parking brake cable.

Loosen the cable clamp, pull it out of the guide tube on the body, release the wire cable mount on the body and remove the cable from the brake shield.

After the new parking brake cable has been secured to the parking brake lever, lubricate the area where the cable enters the guide tube on the body with moisture-resistant grease.

After assembly, adjust the parking brake (see below).
