Attention: In the Golf 60 and Golf Rallye, the side windows are glued to the body and cannot be replaced using the method described below.
1. If an old gasket is used to install new glass, it must be cleaned of glass residue, see fig. 11.8.
Pic. 11.8. Glass sediment in the gasket
1 - glass; 2 - rubber gasket; 3 - decorative wedge; 4 - face of the body.
2. Put the rubber gasket on the glass edge. Press the decorative frame into the gasket, if it is provided for this type of gasket.
3. Insert an insulated electrical wire or a strong packing cord into the outer groove of the gasket, along its entire perimeter, opening the walls of the groove with a medium-sized screwdriver and pressing the wire or cord to the bottom of the groove. The ends of the wire should cross in the middle of the bottom edge of the glass and protrude to a length sufficient for a sure grip by the hand.
4. Attach the glass to the window opening on the outside of the car. Slowly remove the wire from the middle of the car in such a way as to shift the lip of the gasket 2 to them over the edge of the window hole 4, see fig. 11.8.
5. While slowly pulling out the wire inside the vehicle, a second person should strike the glass gasket from the outside with their palm to push it in.
