Opening and closing windows (VW Touareg 1)

All windows can be controlled using switches in the driver's door. The other doors have buttons to control the window for each specific door.

Press the key to open the corresponding window.

Pull out the key , to close the corresponding window (Fig. 1.19).



Always close the windows when parking or leaving it unattended.



After turning off the ignition, you can use the electric windows for about 10 minutes, if during this time the key has not been removed from the ignition or none of the front doors have been opened.

Driver's door keys:

• 1. Key for left front window.
• 2. Key for the right front window.

Rear window keys:

• 3. Safety switch to disable the rear door window control keys.
• 4. Key for left rear window.
• 5. Key for right rear window.

Safety switch

The power supply to the window lift controls in the rear doors can be de-energised using safety switch 3 in the driver's door.

The safety switch is unlocked: the buttons in the rear doors are functional.

Safety switch is fixed: keys in rear doors are inoperative.

Automatic glass raising and lowering

To automatically raise the windows, briefly pull up the corresponding window button to the second detent position. The window will close completely.

To automatically lower the windows, briefly press the corresponding window button down to the second fixed position. The window will open completely.

To restore automatic operation, close all windows.

Insert the key into the driver's door lock and hold it in the locked position for at least one second. The automatic window lift and lower function is now operational again.

Keys 1 and 3 have two fixed positions for opening and closing windows. This simplifies the process of opening and closing windows.

If the key is pressed or pulled to the first position, the window opens and closes while the key is pressed or pulled. If the key is briefly pressed or pulled to the second position, the window opens or closes with automatic opening control (automatic lowering) or closing (automatic lifting). If you press the key while the window is opening or closing, the glass will stop.


After the ignition is switched off, the automatic control of closing and opening the windows no longer operates, even when the key is still in the ignition switch.

If the battery has been disconnected and reconnected or has been discharged, automatic control will not function and must be restored.

If the window lifts are faulty, the automatic control and overload protection do not operate to their full extent.

Overload protection

The electric windows are equipped with overload protection. This reduces the risk of injury when closing the windows.

If something prevents the automatic window from closing or the glass movement is obstructed, the glass stops and then lowers.

Before attempting to close the window again, take ten seconds to see why the window won't close. After ten seconds, the window closing force will automatically increase.

If the window cannot close again, the glass stops.

If more than ten or five seconds have passed, when the key is pressed, the window will open completely again and the automatic window closing control will be operational again.

If the window lifts are faulty, the automatic control and overload protection do not operate to their full extent.

Convenient opening and closing of windows from the outside

The windows can be opened and closed from outside the vehicle.

When opening and closing windows with a mechanical key, hold the mechanical key in the unlocking or locking position until all windows are open or closed. Turning the key the other way interrupts the process.
