The locknut at the axle hub is self-locking and must be renewed each time it is assembled. In addition, it is important to know that elevated "Volkswagen" with the axle shaft removed, it cannot be lowered from the supports and generally shifted. Otherwise, the wheel bearings are loaded unevenly and the bearing rollers are damaged
Remove the protective hub cap.
Loosen the SW 30 hexagon nut in the wheel hub: to do this, the vehicle must be absolutely secure.
Raise the car on stands at the front.
Remove screws from inside "asterisk" next to the gearbox.
Push the axle shaft away from the gearbox flange: pull out the axle shaft.
Remove axle shaft from wheel hub.
With automatic transmission: After releasing the clamping connection, remove the axle shaft from the wheel hub. Only after the wheel hub is tilted outward can the axle shaft be removed.
When installing, install bolts (from the inside "asterisk") along with new spring rings or gaskets. The tightening torque must be 45 Nm.
Lower the car; block the wheels. Tighten the new axle hub nut with a torque of 230 Nm.
