The garage wall behind the car should be lit red when you press the brake pedal.
Or, when driving in a convoy, check with a rear-view mirror whether both brake lights are reflected in the headlight reflectors or on the body of the car driving behind.
Stoplight switch
The models described have one or two hydraulic brake light switches near the brake master cylinder in the engine compartment. When you press the brake pedal, the contacts of the switches are closed and at the same time the current circuit to the brake lights.
Switch (3) brake light is screwed into the brake master cylinder (1). Shown here is the shunting of the switch: both wires (2) remove from the switch and connect to each other
Checking the brake light switch
Open the engine hood.
Remove switch connector.
Shunt the connector with a paper clip or a piece of wire.
If the brake lights are now on, then the brake light switch is defective.
Replacing the brake light switch
Remove connector.
Unscrew the brake light switch and immediately insert a new switch so that as little brake fluid as possible flows out.
Bleed the brake system, see chapter "brakes".
