Replacement
1. To replace the timing belt, you need to remove the generator belt and the timing belt cover.
2. Loosen the generator mounting bolts and adjusting bar bolt, turn the generator down toward the cylinder block and remove the V-belt from the generator pulleys and crankshaft.
3. Remove the three bolts securing the timing belt cover to the rear plate located at the end of the engine and remove the cover.
4. Turn the crankshaft by the pulley mounting bolt using the appropriate socket or open-end wrench until the TDC marks on the crankshaft pulley and camshaft sprocket align with the pointers (figure B:1).
5. Reduce the tension of the timing belt by loosening the cooling pump mounting bolts and turning the pump towards the engine.
6. Remove the toothed belt from the camshaft sprocket, then from the cooling pump and crankshaft sprockets.
7. Install the new belt onto the three sprockets and ensure that the timing marks are aligned with the pointers.
8. To properly tension the belt, push the cooling pump away from the cylinder block (figure B:2) and secure it so that the belt can be twisted 90° with difficulty using two fingers. Tighten the cooling pump mounting bolts.
9. Replace the timing belt cover. Install the alternator drive belt and tighten it so that its deflection when pressed with a finger between the two pulleys is 13 mm. Tighten the mounting bolts and the alternator adjusting bar.
