When performing a number of repair and adjustment work (valve adjustment, ignition timing, etc.) you need to turn the crankshaft of the engine. There are several ways to turn the crankshaft. Regardless of the method used, when cranking the engine, always turn off the ignition system to avoid unexpected flashes in the cylinders. To disable the system, disconnect the ignition coil high voltage wire from the coil or distributor cap. In addition, it is recommended to turn out the spark plugs - in the absence of compression in the cylinders, it will be much easier to rotate the crankshaft.
The easiest way to turn the engine is with a wrench (most convenient - end or cap) for the crankshaft pulley bolt (pic. 27).
On vehicles with a manual transmission, you can engage a higher gear and then push the vehicle to release the parking brake or rotate the drive wheel to lift it off the ground.
In addition, you can crank the engine by briefly turning on the starter; it is convenient to use the remote switch (pic. 28), connected in series between the battery and the winding of the solenoid relay (solenoid) starter.
