Various lifting devices can be used to lift the engine, such as a crane, winch or chain hoist (pic. 29 and 30). In any case, the permissible load of the lifting device must correspond to the weight of the engine. The winch or chain hoist can be mounted on the ceiling beam of the garage, while additional props should be placed under the beam on both sides of the car. In the absence of a suitable beam, the chain hoist or hoist can be fixed on a portable portal (pic. 29).
If the engine has lifting eyes, secure the engine to the lifting device with hooks. If there are no lugs, tie the slings around the engine, while making sure that the slings are caught on parts of the engine that can withstand the load (e.g. support brackets or cylinder block casting projections). If slings are used (ropes) from natural fiber, then make sure that they are not contaminated with oil - this greatly reduces the strength of the rope.
A second person is recommended for safety while lifting the engine. In addition, an assistant is needed in order to roll the car to the side when the engine is lifted from the engine compartment.
