Operating principle
With the ignition on, the sliding/tilting sunroof is opened and closed using the rotary switch. The hatch leans back when you press it and closes when you pull it in the opposite direction.
With the ignition off, the sliding/tilting sunroof can be opened and closed until either the driver's door or the front right door is opened.
The rotary switch has markings indicating the position of the sunroof glass panel.
By opening the sliding/tilting sunroof by turning the switch to position 1, the so-called comfort position, you will be protected from extraneous noises during fast driving, which can occur when the sunroof is fully open in switch position 2 (pic. 8.43).
The sliding/tilting sunroof is equipped with a closing force limiter. If the sunroof encounters an obstacle during closing, it will automatically reopen.
Additionally, the hatch is also equipped with an emergency closing function. If there are problems with closing the hatch, it can be closed forcibly by pressing the switch, which must be in position for this «Schiebedach geschlossen/Latch closed».
However, when the sunroof is closed in an emergency, the force limiter is deactivated.
The tilt/slide sunroof drive is protected against overheating by a time limiter. The safety mechanism is activated after approximately 2 minutes of continuous sunroof operation. After the cooling phase, the safety mechanism is switched off again.
If there is no voltage to the on-board power supply, the sliding/tilting sunroof can also be opened and closed with a hexagon wrench. The hex wrench is located on the inside of the interior light dome trim.
