The crankshaft axial clearance during installation should be 0.07-0.13 mm. When the wear limit (0.15 mm) is reached, the clearance must be adjusted.
Examination
Check the axial play of the crankshaft on an assembled engine with the flywheel installed as follows.
Install a dial indicator on one of the two lower engine mounting studs and place the indicator leg against the flywheel.
By moving the crankshaft in the axial direction, measure the axial play.
Adjustment
Install the flywheel with two spacer washers. The crankshaft and flywheel seals must be removed.

Attach a dial indicator with a holder to the crankcase.
By moving the crankshaft in the axial direction, measure the axial play.
Calculate the thickness of three spacer washers. It is equal to the axial play measured by the indicator, minus the average axial play (for example, a clearance of 0.10 mm corresponds to the thickness of 3 spacer washers).
Remove the flywheel.
Remove the crankshaft oil seal.
Install the flywheel with three spacer washers, not forgetting the flywheel seal.
Check the axial play again.
Caution! Always install 3 spacer washers.
