General instructions for the ignition system (VW Passat B6)

Disconnecting the battery is only allowed when the ignition is off. If the car has a radio with security coding, you must find out the security code before disconnecting the battery.

Electrical components require at least 11.5V to function properly.

When the work is completed, perform a query of the engine control unit fault memory, delete all records of faults that may have arisen as a result of checks and repair work. After clearing the fault memory, it is necessary to create an OBD code.

If after fault diagnosis, repair or component testing the engine only starts briefly and then switches off again, this indicates that the engine control unit is locked by the immobilizer. In this case, the "Guided Functions" control unit must be adapted.

Note: The engine speed sensor is located on the cylinder block.
