Difficulty starting the engine or the engine does not start
| Cause | Method of elimination |
| Incorrect actions when starting a gasoline engine | Apply the handbrake and depress the clutch. On models with an automatic transmission, set the selector lever to position P or N. Start the engine by turning the ignition key and release the ignition key after the engine starts. Do not press the accelerator pedal. You can start driving immediately after starting the engine, even in winter. If the engine does not start after turning the engine with the starter for 10 seconds, interrupt the engine starting process and repeat it after at least 30 seconds.
Several consecutive attempts to start the engine can damage the catalytic converter, as unburned fuel enters the exhaust system and settles on the catalytic converter cells. When starting a hot engine, after the engine starts running, press the accelerator pedal slightly. |
| Incorrect starting of diesel engine | Starting the engine at an air temperature below +5°C. Set the selector lever to position P or N. Turn the ignition key to position 2 and after the engine preheating indicator lamp goes out, start the engine, but do not press the accelerator pedal. If the engine does not start, preheat the engine again and try to start the engine again.
During the pre-heating process of the diesel engine, turn off all unnecessary power consumers. When starting the engine at an air temperature above +5°C no engine preheating required. |
| Low compression in engine cylinders | Replace the cylinder head gasket or perform a major engine overhaul. |
