Also, before troubleshooting, make sure that there is enough fuel in the fuel tank, the engine has no mechanical defects, the battery is charged and the starter cranks the engine at a sufficient speed, the ignition system is working, the fuel system is tight and free of contamination, the crankcase ventilation hose clean and the power unit ground bar is securely connected.
Preliminary check up the malfunctions which are written down in memory of a control system of the engine.
When carrying out work on the fuel system, first relieve the pressure in the fuel system.
CAUSE | ELIMINATION METHOD |
Engine won't start | |
When the ignition is switched on, the electric fuel pump does not work | Check the electrical circuit supply voltage to the fuel pump and the reliability of the connection of the electrical connectors |
Fuse defective | Check for continuity and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump or engine control fuse |
Faulty fuel pump relay | Check operation and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump relay |
No voltage to fuel injectors | Check fuel injector power supply circuit |
Difficulty starting a cold engine and running the engine intermittently
Faulty temperature sensor | Check and, if necessary, replace the coolant temperature and engine air temperature sensors |
Engine runs intermittently
Unreliable contact in the electrical connectors of the fuel pump power circuit | Check the condition, clean and tighten the contacts of the electrical connectors in the fuel pump power circuit. Check and, if necessary, clean the fuse and relay contacts of the fuel pump |
Reduced amount of fuel supplied to the engine | Check fuel pump performance |
Fuel filter clogged | Replace fuel filter |
Faulty fuel pump | Check the operation of the fuel pump |
Faulty fuel injector | Check and, if necessary, replace the fuel injectors |
Unstable operation of the engine in transient conditions
Leaky air supply system to the engine | Check and, if necessary, tighten the connections of the air supply system to the engine |
Faulty coolant or engine air temperature sensor | Check and, if necessary, replace the coolant temperature and engine air temperature sensors |
The tightness of the fuel system is broken | Visually check the fuel system for leaks. Check the reliability of the fuel system connections |
Difficulty starting a hot engine
High pressure in the fuel system | Check the pressure in the fuel system and, if necessary, replace the fuel pressure regulator |
Clogged or deformed fuel return line between fuel pressure regulator and fuel tank | Clean or replace piping |
Engine acceleration is delayed
Leaky fuel injectors | Check and, if necessary, replace the fuel injectors |
