When driving on long descents, the braking properties of the engine should be used, for which it is necessary to switch to lower gears in a timely manner. This reduces the load on the brakes. If there is a need for additional braking using the service brake system, it should be applied at intervals, and not continuously.
What reduces braking efficiency
moisture and salt
Warning: Under certain driving conditions, e.g. when driving for a long time on water, in heavy rain, and after washing the car, there may be some delay in the application of the brakes due to the presence of moisture on the brake discs and pads (and also due to the presence of frost in winter). It is necessary to dry the discs and pads in a timely manner, activating the service brake system.

Overheating of the brake mechanisms
Warning: Never "grind" brake pads, pressing down on the brake pedal unnecessarily. This leads to overheating of the brake mechanisms, lengthening of the stopping distance and increased brake wear.
Warning: Before driving down a long steep downhill, slow down, shift to a lower gear (Manual Transmission) or choose a lower level (Automatic transmission). By doing this, you use the braking qualities of the engine and make it easier for the brakes to work.
Warning: When installing various spoilers, full-size mudguards, etc. on the vehicle during operation, make sure that this does not impair the air supply to the front brakes, otherwise the brakes will become too hot.
Brake booster (vacuum brake booster)
Warning: The brake booster operates using a vacuum that is created only when the engine is running. Therefore, never practice coasting the car with the engine off.
If the brake booster is not functioning, such as when the vehicle is being towed or the booster is malfunctioning, it is necessary to press the brake pedal much harder to compensate for the lack of additional brake force generated during normal booster operation.
