Adjusting the tension of the power steering pump drive belt (VW Passat B2)

Loosen the nut or nuts securing the pump body 1 (see photo).

Turn the adjusting screw 2 of the tensioner to achieve the desired belt tension: the belt deflection when pressing with your thumb on the middle of the branch between the pulleys of the pump and the crankshaft should be about 10 mm.

Tighten the pump body mounting nut or nuts.
