Parking brake cable — removal and installation (VW Golf 5)

Removal



1. Release the parking brake.

2. Remove the center console, see the relevant chapter.

3. Unscrew the adjusting nut 3 on the cable equalizer so that you can disconnect the cable 1 from the equalizer 2 (see illustration). Disconnect the parking brake cable.

4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the brake pad actuator lever on the rear wheel caliper.

5. Unscrew bolt 2 and disconnect the parking brake cable holder 2 from the longitudinal beam 3 of the rear axle (see illustration).

6. Release cable 1 from fastening 4 and remove it from hole 5 (see illustration).

7. Release the parking brake cable from the holders on the underbody.



Installation



8. Insert the parking brake cable into the guide tube 5 on the bottom towards the parking brake lever and secure it in the holder 4 (see illustration 9.6).

9. Secure the cable to the brake pad actuator lever on the rear wheel caliper.

Caution! The parking brake cable between the bracket on the caliper and the bracket on the cross member must be free of tension.


10. Screw the cable holder to the crossbar after the cable is secured in it.

11. Secure the cable from the parking brake lever to the equalizer and tighten it with the adjusting nut.

12. Adjust the parking brake.

13. Reinstall the center console.
