Please note! The accompanying illustrations show the steering column trim on Golf vehicles. Removal and installation of the trim on Touran vehicles is performed in the same sequence.
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery.
Warning: Read the safety precautions for handling the airbag.
2. Remove the airbag unit from the steering wheel.
3. Lower the steering wheel and pull it out as far as it will go.
4. Remove the steering wheel.
5. Release the cover 1 from the fastening above the connecting joint on the steering column (see illustration).
6. Release the upper part 2 of the steering column trim from the lower part 3 and remove it (see illustration 10.5).
7. Move the steering column locking lever to the lower position.
8. Unscrew bolt 4 (see illustration).
9. Unscrew the two screws 5, release the lower part 3 of the trim from the fasteners and remove it from the steering column (see illustration 10.8).
The installation of the trim is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
