Petrol engines:
- 1 - ignition off / engine off;
- 2 - ignition on;
- 3 - engine start
Diesel engines:
- 1 - fuel supply is blocked / the engine is turned off;
- 2 - inclusion of preheating and position when the car is moving;
- 3 - engine start
On models with a diesel engine, during the operation of the preheater, no other electrical appliances - large current consumers should be turned on. Otherwise, there will be too much load on the battery.
Warning: Remove the key from the ignition lock only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop! Otherwise, the steering lock may engage while driving.
Warning: To prevent the vehicle from rolling uncontrollably after the vehicle has come to a complete stop, you must always apply the parking brake firmly.
FOR ALL CARS
Position 1
To lock the steering, turn the steering wheel with the ignition key removed until the steering lock pin locks into place audibly.
If, after removing the ignition key, the lighting devices or the direction indicator are not turned off, then as soon as the driver's door is opened, a buzzer will sound.
Position 2
If the ignition key is difficult or even impossible to turn to this position, you should slightly shake the steering wheel left and right - then the steering lock will be released.
Position 3
In this position, the headlights switch to parking lights, other large consumers of electric current are turned off.
Before each new attempt to start the engine, the ignition key must be returned to position 1. The starter restart interlock located in the ignition lock prevents the starter from turning on while the engine is rotating and thereby protects the starter from damage.
Ignition key removal lock
On vehicles with an automatic transmission, the key can only be removed after the ignition is switched off when the selector is in position "R".
With the ignition key removed, the selector is locked in this position.
Electronic anti-theft system
The electronic anti-theft system prevents your vehicle from being stolen.
An integrated circuit is placed in the head of the key. With its help, when the key is inserted into the ignition switch, the electronic anti-theft system is automatically turned off.
The activation of the electronic anti-theft system is carried out automatically when the ignition is turned off. Therefore, the engine can only be started using an approved coded original Volkswagen key.
Only by using original keys can you count on the operation of your vehicle without unnecessary problems.
